Srinivas institute of Technology, Mangalore conducted a two day faculty development program on Information Retrieval during 19-20 Feb, 2010. It was intended for the faculty who are teaching the course by the same title prescribed as an elective under the
VTU for VIII semester
ISE branch. Faculty from 9 institutions attended the program. The event started with a keynote address by Mr.
Srishal Chari in
which he stressed about the growing complexity of business and information systems and challenge in
developing them.
Ravindra Dastikop, Faculty from
SDM College of Engineering and Technology, Dharwad conducted a session on
Information Retrieval: An academic perspective. The post lunch session was on Information Retrieval using
DW concepts by Mr.
Jitendra Sahu.
The second day began with a session on Parallel and Distributed IR by Prof.
Roshan Fernandes,
NMANIT, NITTE ,
Mangalore. The second session was on Integrating Structured Data and Text by
Ravindra Dastikop. The last session was by Prof. Damien Antony of
St. Joseph Engineering college, Managalore, in which he discussed about IR for web. The
function ended with a formal valedictory in which positive feedback was given by participants. Principal Dr.
Mayya attended the event. Prof.
Shivakumar, HOD,
ISE department coordinated the entire program.
It was encouraging to note that there in increasing number of initiatives are being taken by institutes in conducting such events.
